James Johnson Homicide

This week’s “Crime of the Week” focuses on a Homicide which took place in Columbus in 2020.

On Tuesday, October 20, 2020, Patrol officers responded on a ShotSpotter call to 2281 Sullivant Avenue, a Sunoco gas station.  Upon arrival, they discovered shell casings on the parking lot.  A couple of minutes later, they received a shooting run at 530 Hague Avenue, a United Dairy Farmers store.  Upon arrival at that scene, they found the victim, James Johnson, who had been shot inside a Honda Element.  Preliminary investigation efforts revealed that two black males were involved with shooting the victim at the Sunoco station and then fled the scene in a red over gold Pontiac Montana with a female driver. Mr. Johnson then drove to the United Dairy Farmers on Hague, where the police were called.  James Johnson was transported to Grant Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. A photo of James Johnson, and photo of the red over gold suspect minivan may be viewed on our website at www.stopcrime.org.
