This week’s “Crime of the Week” focuses on a Homicide that took place in Columbus in 2017

On June 29, 2017, at approximately 1:56 a.m., Columbus Police officers were called to the B.P. Gas Station at 3140 E. Main St. (corner of E. Main St. and James Rd.) on the report of multiple gunshots being fired. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile victim on the lot who had received multiple gunshots. The victim was transported by CFD Medic 21 to Grant Medical Center in stable condition. Approximately one hour later, a second victim was located in the front yard of a nearby address. The second victim, later identified as Marquelis Shaquan Barnes, was also suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased by CFD Medic 21 at 3:06 a.m. Investigation revealed that the two victims were involved in an altercation with another group of males on the lot when at least one of those individuals fired multiple shots at the two victims.
