This week’s “Crime of the Week” focuses on a Homicide that took place in Columbus

Mr. Lawrence Smith III

On May 29th, 2022 at approximately 6:59 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 2100 block Hamilton Ave. on reports of shots fired. Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, Mr. Lawrence Smith III inside his black 2005 Jaguar XJR suffering from multiple gunshots. EMS responded to scene to provide treatment, however Mr. Smith passed away due to his injuries. During the investigation detectives were informed Mr. Smith had recently bought his vehicle and was often seen driving it in the area. It is believed Mr. Smith was robbed and involved in a crash prior to the shooting. At this time no suspect has been identified in this homicide.
