Jalon Nelson Murder

 This week’s “Crime of the Week” focuses on a Homicide that took place in Columbus.

On the morning of July 24, 2019, at approximately 12:31 a.m., Officers were dispatched to the area of 1113 Oakwood Ave. on the report of multiple gunshots being fired, which were reported by ShotSpotter. Prior to the Officers arriving at scene, there was an accident reported at the corner of Linwood Ave. and Reinhard Ave. This location is approximately two (2) blocks east of the reported gunshots.  Officers arrived at the accident location and discovered a 1995 Buick Rivera, black in color, crashed into a wood utility pole at the southwest corner of Reinhard Ave. and Linwood Ave. Officers approached the vehicle and located the victim, later identified as JALON I. NELSON, slumped over in the driver’s seat, and unresponsive. Mr. Nelson was found to have suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body. Mr. Nelson was transported to Grant Medical Center by CFD Medic 15 in critical condition. Mr. Nelson was treated for his injuries but unfortunately he did not recover and was pronounced deceased at 1:02 a.m.
