On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 12:03AM, Columbus Police Officers were called to the 1000 block of E. Weber Rd. on a report of a shooting. On arrival, officers found Me’Khi Keys, 16, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. CFD Medic 16 transported Keys to Riverside Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced deceased at 12:35AM.

The initial investigation revealed Keys and another juvenile were walking eastbound together when they encountered two unidentified males walking in the opposite direction. There was a brief exchange between the groups, then one of the unidentified males produced a handgun and shot Keys. After the shooting the two males ran east bound for a short distance before turning and continuing to run south away from the scene. It is possible the males ran south down Howey Rd. as they fled.
